Matty Jackman is backing Pat Bell as she steps forward to stand in the Kirkby Stephen and Tebay By-Election.
This election comes in the wake of the resignation of the beloved Conservative Councillor Phil Dew, who has moved on to “pastures new.”
Pat expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, “I am thrilled to have been selected to stand in the Kirkby Stephen & Tebay By-election. My husband Phil and I live locally and are committed to supporting our rural community.” Her deep-rooted connection to the area is evident; having lived and worked in the region for nearly her entire life, Pat has developed a profound understanding of the community’s needs.
With over 20 years of experience at South Lakeland District Council, Pat has garnered invaluable insights into local government protocols, procedures, and decision-making processes. “This experience will be a distinct advantage when representing our rural area,” she noted. Her background includes serving as a Deputy Returning Officer and as an EU Election Observer prior to Brexit, further enriching her understanding of governance and civic responsibilities.
Currently, Pat serves as the Chair of the Westmorland & Lonsdale Conservative Association and as a member of her local Parish Council. She is actively involved in the community as a member of the Grayrigg Young Farmers and as a past President of the Northern Area of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. These roles have allowed her to forge close relationships within the community and understand the issues that matter most to local residents.
Acknowledging the significant challenge of filling Phil Dew’s shoes, Pat is committed to representing the voices of her constituents. If elected, she plans to advocate for Westmorland and Furness Council to utilise the £129 million announced by the Conservative Government to improve transport links and road maintenance. This includes addressing the safety of the A66, enhancing bus routes, and ensuring general road repairs are prioritised.
Pat is also determined to work collaboratively across party lines, particularly with David Allen, the Police and Crime Commissioner, to tackle rural crime.
Also Pat will fight to secure fair treatment for pensioners who have spent their lives working, only to see their livelihoods jeopardised.
“I strongly believe that our community is often overlooked and not adequately represented at both the local council and government levels,” Pat emphasised. “As a dedicated Conservative Councillor, I would be a strong voice for your concerns. Your vote and support are essential.”
As the Kirkby Stephen and Tebay By-Election approaches, the community stands poised to benefit from Pat’s extensive knowledge and unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of residents in the area.
