The Government must keep its commitment to the visitor economy; ensuring places such as the Lake District National Park are enjoyed by generations for years to come.
That is the view of Matty Jackman, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Westmorland and Lonsdale, speaking as Cumbria Tourism celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Matty, who grew up in Grasmere, said he feels privileged to call the Lakes his home and welcomed the news that Cumbria Tourism is pushing to promote the region further during its 50th year in business.
However, Matty Jackman, who currently works in the defence sector and previously worked in hospitality in Ambleside, acknowledges that despite Cumbria's global recognition as an outstanding area of natural beauty, the local tourism industry continues to face challenges. These challenges primarily stem from stiff competition posed by inexpensive holidays abroad.
Commenting, Matty Jackman said:
“The work that Cumbria Tourism do to promote our beautiful region should be rightly applauded.”
“After talking to local people in the hospitality industry, we need to do as much as we can to support our region, which is why I’m glad the government is committed to supporting the tourism sector, with billions of pounds of help in the form of grants, loans and tax breaks.”
“It's great news that Cumbria Tourism has teamed up with the Cumbria Community Foundation to establish a new 50th Anniversary Charitable Fund. I fully endorse this initiative, which seeks to empower and support young people in staying within the county by providing them with valuable opportunities to launch their training and careers in the fields of tourism and hospitality.”
“It was a pleasure to join Cumbria Tourism leaders at the Ullswater 'Steamers' 50th Anniversary celebration last week. It provided an excellent opportunity to come together and discuss our shared vision for Westmorland and Lonsdale.”
“I am committed to supporting Cumbria Tourism in its efforts to grow staying visitors, extend the length of their stays, and increase visitor spending.”
